No Pain, No Gain
While I was with the G-Team, we did a lot of talking. Which was awesome, and even when we sang the words and lyrics just kept pointing me to one of my favorites verses. So I thought I would share.
It all started when the MK’s (Missionary Kids) were talking about their struggles with moving in and out of different places all the time, and how much they have to give. And the other non-mk’s were talking about how much they had to give up and do in order to help out with GT. Then while sitting around the camp fire we sang, the famous Matt Redman song, “Blessed Be Your Name”, in this song we sang “Though there’s pain in the offering/ Blessed be Your name.” Because of all these things, I have been pointed back to 2 Samuel 24, all week.
This chapter is about David and the pestilence the Lord sent on Israel after David didn’t trust God. Well, king David wants to give an offering to God so he seeks out Araunah’s threshing floor so the plague would be averted from the Israelites.
Then Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Here are the oxen for the burnt offering and the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. All this, O king, Araunah gives to the king.” And Araunah said to the king, “May the Lord your God accept you.” But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.”
David knew that if he took the threshing floor from Araunah, it wouldn’t be David’s own offering because he wasn’t the one giving anything. David realized that if it didn’t mean anything to himself, then God wouldn’t really see it as an offering or sacrifice, because it was of no “worth”. Just something that’s been on my heart…
