NYC: The Place To Be
Thanks to our supporters at FOTAK (Friends of the Arts at King), the President’s Office and The Buechner Institute, three students and I are in New York City for IAM (International Arts Movement) Encounter 2011. Everything has been incredible so far. I’d like to share a highlight from day one. Dinner at Corner Shop Cafe.
Having cravings for warm pasta and fresh salad we prudently...

The Good Life
A few years back I was greatly inspired by the documentary Born Into Brothels a film about the organization Kids With Cameras. “Born into Brothels is a portrait of several unforgettable children who live in the red light district of Calcutta, where their mothers work as prostitutes. Zana Briski, a New York-based photographer, gives each of the children a camera and teaches them to look at...

So today, walking around Kyoto I noticed some homeless people. Then remembering something that “Uncle Bob” (A SEND missionary who I had worked with the past few weeks) had said, I was in awe. The people here in Japan are so rooted in their culture that nothing will undermine it, even homelessness.
There was a woman sitting on some newspaper trying to sleep by...

No Pain, No Gain
While I was with the G-Team, we did a lot of talking. Which was awesome, and even when we sang the words and lyrics just kept pointing me to one of my favorites verses. So I thought I would share.
It all started when the MK’s (Missionary Kids) were talking about their struggles with moving in and out of different places all the time, and how much they have to give. And the other...

Barefeet & Tatami mats
Well, today has been a long day, but still a great day.So far at least. The worst part is my computer being on the fritz. The best part is fellowshipping and laughing with the kids & staff.
I love waking up early and walkin barefoot across the tatami mats, going out to see the sun rise over the Okutama mountains, and later going inside and having hot curry for lunch. Japan is...
Complications
So, it’s our 2nd week here at OBC, and my computer has died(maybe a damaged harddrive after the airlines took my laptop bag and checked it on my smaller flight) and Walle (the other photo/media person) has had to put his camera in for repairs. I think someone doesn’t want us to do our job… Hmmm…
Anyway, the new batch of campers are here and we should have some fun this...
